  • BEFORE THE CURRENT SYSTEM TOOK EFFECT THE OLD DORIS SYSTEM
WAS GOOD—BUT THE CURRENT SYSTEM IS NOTHING BUT ONE BIG
PAIN PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM ON THE OLD SYSTEM MIGHT BE DOWN
ONCE EVER WEEK OR SO BUT THE PRESENT SYSTEM IS DOWN 2 3 TIMES
A DAY–AND WE CANNOT SERVE OUR CUSTOMERS–IF WE KEEP HAVING
THESE PROBLEMS I WILL LEAVE DORIS AND GO ELSEWHERE AFTER 3
MONTHS THE PROBLEMS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED LONG AGO

  • Old Timer and Bill Quickel are correct. We originally purchased DORIS to get away from Applied. Then Applied purchased DORIS and the monthly fees get higher and higher every year with no added benefit. Applied only cares about their profits not yours as they try to push you towards their higher priced products.

Honestly the customer service has always been more than helpful for our agency tasks & issues with DORIS. Despite the excellent support, DORIS is horrendously slow and frustratingly confusing for our current Windows based PCs and business level internet connection. I’m not sure if there’s a server issue with it being an online connection but it tends to be slow whenever I’m doing typical workday tasks. More affecting workflow than the connection speed is the terrible User Experience and User Interface I’m presented with. Not only is it unpleasant to look at (they don’t even feature images of DORIS on the Applied Systems website) it’s horribly counterintuitive, reminiscent of 90s Windows programs. If Applied Systems improved just on the User Interface & Experience alone that would skyrocket our agency workflow and keep my sanity. Every item is compartmentalized and seemingly unaware of each other; as in there are no smart systems in place where similar items or related items might connect to each other and form a “data relationship” instead every piece of the puzzle is left to be found in the spilt pile dropped by Applied Systems. I do hope they’re working on a major overhaul because I’m about to create one myself or find another agency management system.

As an update to my prior review. This system won’t communicate with Explorer 11 or Microsoft 8.1. Doris crashes every time I try to upload a document from my desktop. I was told there is currently no solution and to upgrade to Epic at a cost of over $15,000 for conversion, education, and start up fee’s. In addition, they won’t cooperate to get me out of my current contract. In conclusion, I highly recommend shopping around before committing to this system.

Not a very user friendly platform, very dated uses windows 2008. I don’t recommend this management system if you want to operate something in current decade.

Oops – forgot to give a star rating…

  • We have been on TAM for a very long time and recently we did switch over to DORIS. TAM is a real powerhouse and works very well for the agency that does everything in house. By this I mean agency bill as well as direct billing for your customers. I have long felt that TAM is really designed for Commercial Insurance although it does well for Personal Insurance needs but really has more features than you will ever need. To be honest with you it has been a real pain in the BUT to switch to DORIS. Actually, staff in my office are outwardly complaining to me but we are really just starting to use it exclusively and nobody likes change. If you are not needing to convert any customers from one system to another and you write mostly personal and less commercial insurance DORIS should be a nice fit. It is fairly easy to use and they train the heck out of you. Also, Applied is a very large company who has great customer service and can guide you through any trouble you may have. The transfer process is what is getting us; it has been a real nightmare and the best way to describe it is extremely tedious and difficult. We have had problems deleting old policies, companies, and staff that we haven’t worked with in up to 20 years! You have to delete them one by one as DORIS has no convenient way to delete these entries by selecting all at once. If you are just starting out and not transferring your old database you shouldn’t have these kinds of issues. Other than that it is pretty easy to use and has a very simple interface that I really enjoy.

For some reason, my ratings were not submitted originally.

  • I agree with Mr. Quickel. DORIS was a great product and a lot of bang for the buck before Applied purchased them!

In my opinion, they are only doing what is necessary to keep the system alive, and they continue to raise prices to try to coerce DORIS users to try to go to an original Applied product.

If you were on DORIS before and after the transition, you certainly will know what I mean.

Doris was a Great product until Applied purchased them. Since that time capabilities have decreased and cost have gone through the roof. Doris has an excellent diary system and the ability to search the files is great, scanning was a pain and the ability to go direct to company websites went away.

DORIS is a very comprehensive system, especially for those who are new to the insurance industry. It is extremely user friendly, their customer service team is very attentive, and the functionality of the product exceeded our expectations.
